The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sector at Anambra State Idemili South local government area has been set ablaze by hooligans during the mid hours of the 1st of February, 2023.
In his confirmatory statement, INEC national commissioner and Chairman of Information Education, Festus Okoye acclaimed that this incident was reported by the resident electoral commissioner in Anambra State, Elizabeth Agwu. He added that damage done to the building during the attack was substantial.
He said that the furniture and other non-sensitive materials recently delivered in readiness for 2023 general elections has been damaged. The destroyed items also include 729 Ballot Boxes, 243 cubicles, 256 election bags, 11 mega phones, one electric powered generator, large quantities of indelible ink and liquid gum .
The Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) however, was not affected during the attack as it was set to have been kept in the fireproof cabinet of the commission.
